Click Speech Debelle Gets Mercury Prize Nod
Back in March we quipped that Speech Debelle’s ‘Speech Therapy’ album on Big Dada was Mercury Music Prize bound and – Tooting Our Own Horn Award aside – we’re proud to announce that the prediction has come true, and the south London miss will be up against the likes of Friendly Fires, La Roux, Glasvegas and some other bands we’ve never heard of for the prize.
“I feel like this is well deserved and I feel an album like this should get the recognition it has,” said a delighted Ms Debelle of the nomination, before adding, “And other albums like this should, too. Let’s open some doors!”
